It’s been 3.5 years since we’ve moved to the farm with our kids, then ages 5,3, 6 mos. As first generation farmers, we had NO CLUE how to incorporate our kids into our new agricultural lifestyle.

But we knew we wanted to. And have had many failed attempts.

Most days, Jon and our amazing farmhand do the lions share of the chores. I’ll step in for emergencies when it comes to daily chores.

This week, injuries to Jon and the farmhand meant it was time to call in the B-TEAM. And we lived a day of the farmer’s dream with our kids. It was so special, I wanted to share this day with you.

Our kids had to work, sweat, lift, push, figure out. Our son said he was using his “Super Gekko Muscles.” Our daughters shouted “GIRL POWER” while we pushed and pulled impossibly heavy chicken tractors across large patches of field.

We set up the chicken tractors and moved baby chicks out of the brooder and into their newly cleaned and prepared homes.

And even with a mix of attitudes (real life here still), it was great! Our daughters felt so awesome to know they were able to do work that really mattered and really helped.
